Overview

TRAILS is an organization that focuses on increasing access to mental health services for k-12 students. We train and equip school staff with the necessary skills and resources to support their students' mental health.

Problem

School staff often are in need of implementation support with our programming. The process prior to launch was to reach out to a dedicated TRAILS staff member, which forced school staff to reach out and wait for a response.

Solution

Looking through common implementation support we provide, we pivoted to providing alongside the resource on the platform. This increases accessibility of our materials and reduces the amount of assistance staff are having to provide.

Team

  • 1 product designer (me!)

  • 1 design engineer

  • 1 product manager

  • 3 engineers

  • 2 clinicians

Timeline

9 months

Process

  1. Early concepting with internal implementation scientists to uncover necessary supports

  2. Concept testing with rough wireframes to confirm supports

  3. Refinements

  4. Card sorting exercise to uncover IA of resource organization

  5. Considerations for ways we want users to find resources, testing

  6. Visual design, co-created thumbnails with design engineer, who is also an illustrator

  7. LAUNCH!

What comes next

  1. Analytics tracking and refinements through PostHog

  2. Diary study that coincides with launch to understand first reactions and adoption of product, seeing if there's any support that would be helpful especially

  3. Improving the get a recommendation feature, better support support other delivery formats, ability for school staff to build their own sequences
